OVEROOM lets you scan a room, keep it online as a 3D place, and meet people in it. To do that we handle some personal information, including photos of your room, your avatar's face and, if you choose, your voice. This page says what we collect, why, who helps us run OVEROOM, how long we keep things, and how to delete them.
Who we are
OVEROOM is made by an independent developer in Israel, who is responsible for your information ("we", "us"). Write to support@overoom.com about anything on this page.
What we collect
| What | When |
|---|---|
| Account: your email address or phone number, a display name, and an account ID | When you sign in with a one-time code. Without signing in you get a visitor account on that device, with no email or phone. |
| Age: your date of birth and country | Once, the first time you open a room. If you are under the minimum age for your country we store nothing and you can't continue. |
| Room scans: the photos the app takes while you walk around, the phone's movement while scanning, and the 3D room made from them | When you scan a room. The photos show whatever is in the room, which can include people and personal things. |
| Avatar: selfie photos and the avatar made from them | When you make an avatar from a selfie in OVERSTUDIO. |
| Voice: a short recording of you reading a paragraph | Only if you record your voice so your avatar can speak like you. |
| Conversations with an avatar: what is said while a visitor talks with a room's avatar | The sound goes live to an AI service to be understood and answered; we don't store the sound. We keep a written record of the conversation for the room's owner (see How long we keep it). |
| What you create: notes, chat and private messages, voice notes, recordings, escape rooms, OVERBUILDER items and the descriptions you type for them, clans, items you list for OVERCOIN, your OVERCOIN balance, friends and blocks | When you make or send them. |
| Live camera (OVERGLIMPSE): video between two people who both agreed | It goes between the two devices, through a relay when needed. We don't record it. |
| Reports: what you reported, why, and a copy of the reported content | When you or someone else uses Report. |
| Technical: crash reports (phone model, system and app version, what went wrong), a notification token, IP address in server logs, and a check that you are a person (captcha) | While you use the app and the website. |
We don't collect your precise location, your contacts or an advertising ID. There are no ads in OVEROOM, and we don't sell or rent your information to anyone.
Why we use it
- To run OVEROOM for you: build your rooms, avatar and voice, show rooms to the people you let in, deliver messages and notifications. This is needed for the service you asked for.
- Your face and your voice are used only to make and run your own avatar and its voice, because you chose to. You can delete them at any time, and they are deleted with your account.
- To keep people safe: apply the age rules, handle reports, block abuse and spam, and protect the service. We do this because it is necessary and in everyone's legitimate interest, and in some cases because the law requires it.
- To fix problems: crash reports and logs help us find and fix faults.
- To write to you about your account, such as sign-in codes and important changes. We don't send marketing email.
We don't use your rooms, photos, face, voice or conversations to train AI models, and we don't let the services that help us do so.
Who can see what
- Rooms are seen by whoever you allow: only you, your friends, anyone with the link, or everyone. You can change this at any time in Settings.
- Your display name and avatar are seen by people in the same room.
- Conversations with a room's avatar are shown to that room's owner, as a short summary and the messages left for them. A visitor can delete their own visit.
- Your age and country are never shown to anyone.
- Reports are seen by the person running OVEROOM and anyone helping to review them. The person you report is not told who reported them.
Services that help us
These companies store or process information for us, only to provide their service to OVEROOM:
| Company | What it does for OVEROOM |
|---|---|
| Supabase | The database and sign-in: accounts, rooms, messages, notes, friends |
| Amazon Web Services | Stores the photos from room scans and runs part of our server |
| Cloudflare | Stores and delivers 3D rooms and avatars; the check that you are a person |
| RunPod | Computers that turn scan photos into 3D rooms and selfies into avatars |
| Google Cloud | Runs the avatar voice service and stores recorded voices (in Europe) |
| Google (Gemini) | Understands and answers conversations with a room's avatar, and writes their summaries |
| Anthropic | Turns the descriptions you type in OVERBUILDER into items |
| Google (Firebase) | Notifications and crash reports |
| Vercel | Hosts this website and the room viewer |
| Resend | Sends emails such as sign-in codes |
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone from serious harm, or to report child sexual abuse material to the authorities (see Child safety).
How long we keep it
- Your account and what you created: until you delete them or your account.
- Conversations with a room's avatar: the full written conversation for 24 hours, its summary for 30 days, and messages left for the owner for 90 days. Then they are deleted.
- Reports: as long as needed to handle them and to deal with repeat abuse.
- Crash reports and server logs: for a limited time set by each service, normally up to 90 days.
- Backups may hold deleted information for a short time before they are replaced.
Deleting and your rights
Delete your account in the app (Settings, then Delete my account) or on this page. This deletes your rooms and their scans, your avatar and its photos, your voice, notes, messages, items, OVERCOIN and everything else in the account. It can't be undone. You can also delete single things, such as a room, a note or your recorded voice, at any time.
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for a purpose. Write to support@overoom.com from the email on your account. We answer within 30 days. If you think we handled your information wrongly, you can complain to your local data protection authority; in Israel this is the Privacy Protection Authority.
Young people
OVEROOM is for people aged 13 and over, or older where the law in your country sets a higher age. We ask for a date of birth once and don't store anything about someone below the minimum age. For people aged 13 to 17, OVEROOM turns off the live camera, lets only friends send them private messages, keeps their rooms out of public listings, and doesn't let them record a voice for their avatar. If you believe a child under the minimum age is using OVEROOM, write to us and we will delete the account.
Security and transfers
Information is sent encrypted, access to our systems is limited and protected, and our database only lets each person reach what they are allowed to. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we will tell you as the law requires.
The services that help us store and process information in the United States, the European Union and other countries. When information leaves your country we rely on the protections the law provides for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and tell you in the app before an important change takes effect. Questions or requests: support@overoom.com.
